Welcome to Class Four

In Class 4 we have settled back in after the Christmas holiday and are looking forward to a busy Spring Term!

Our new topic is South Africa. In literacy we will be reading A Journey to Jo’burg, a modern tale of life in South Africa. We will also be looking at the history of South Africa and the life of Nelson Mandela. This will help us to write letters, diaries, newspaper reports and biographies based on what we have learned. As always we will be taking an enquiry led approach to our learning and the development of our key skills.

In numeracy we will continue to work on out times tables using Times Tables Rock Stars and will also be securing and developing our calculation skills before moving on to fractions, decimals and percentages. Problem solving will continue to be a key focus of our maths lessons.

In ICT we will be looking and different ways of presenting information and will be producing PowerPoint presentations on an aspect of South African history that the children have chosen.

Our science topic this term is Habitats and Food Chains and we will be studying a variety of living things that are native to the Eden Valley and South Africa by comparing and contrasting their habitats.

Spelling homework will continue to be given on Thursday to help prepare for our spelling test. Numeracy homework will be given out on Friday and needs to be handed in the following Monday morning.

Now that we have finished our swimming lessons PE this term will be outdoor games. As the weather continues to be cold and unpredictable and the children will need to have their full indoor and outdoor PE kit (including pumps or trainers) in school.
