Team Appleby Runs Out in Force

Runners from Appleby Primary School turned out in force to represent their school at the Long Marton Helm Wind Races this week. Over thirty boys and girls from Year 1 to Year 6 participated in a range of age categories over distances of 1.6km and 3km. Children have been attending Running Club with Mrs Willacy weekly during lunchtimes since September and were eager to challenge themselves in a competitive event. All of the children should be incredibly proud of their achievement with all of the runners completing their events in stifling heat. Thankfully there was an ice-cream van on hand to help us all to cool down afterwards!

Congratulations to Frankie, Noah, Ayda, Emily and Allie who all took home prizes for placing in their races. A huge well done to Blake who was awarded the trophy for first place in the five and under category.

Mr Spruce, who attended the race, commented: "It was wonderful to see such an amazing turn-out. Twenty percent of pupils at school took part today! It was a fantastic experience for all of the children and a great way to challenge themselves after all of the hard work that they have put in this year."
