It is important that children continue to read daily. If your child is an independent reader then continuing to read from a book or e-book from home is a great way to do this.
We have added some ideas for reading activities in our "Great Ideas for Any Age Section."
Whilst children are continuing to develop their reading skills then access to the sort of structured reading scheme that we use in school is a must. We recognise that for younger readers, their books are short and it will not be long before they have read everything off their bookshelf.
Oxford Owls is a great website. Once you have registered, you will find an enormous and free of charge bank of books for children, set out in the familiar coloured bands that we use in school. All of your friends are here from Biff, Chip and Kipper to the Project-X Team. There are also comprehension activities and other things for children to have a go at too!
