Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
In his final official act in office the Mayor of Appleby, Stan Rooke, was delighted to visit our school to present a number of our pupils with citizenship awards for their work in supporting their peers in school.
Mr Rooke visited Emma's Building, our strategic resourced provision, as part of an Open Day event and was impressed to learn about the "Buddies". This amazing group of children have committed their break and lunchtimes this year to play with and support learners with additional learning needs and physical and medical needs. When he visited the school, Mr Rooke was so impressed by the inclusive ethos of the school and the attitudes of our children that he asked if he could present the pupils with awards in recognition of their outstanding citizenship.
During an assembly in front of the whole school and invited parents, Mr Rooke presented specially produced certificates alongside Mrs Barker our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.
Runners from Appleby Primary School turned out in force to represent their school at the Long Marton Helm Wind Races this week. Over thirty boys and girls from Year 1 to Year 6 participated in a range of age categories over distances of 1.6km and 3km. Children have been attending Running Club with Mrs Willacy weekly during lunchtimes since September and were eager to challenge themselves in a competitive event. All of the children should be incredibly proud of their achievement with all of the runners completing their events in stifling heat. Thankfully there was an ice-cream van on hand to help us all to cool down afterwards!
Congratulations to Frankie, Noah, Ayda, Emily and Allie who all took home prizes for placing in their races. A huge well done to Blake who was awarded the trophy for first place in the five and under category.
Mr Spruce, who attended the race, commented: "It was wonderful to see such an amazing turn-out. Twenty percent of pupils at school took part today! It was a fantastic experience for all of the children and a great way to challenge themselves after all of the hard work that they have put in this year."
