Appleby Primary School

Ms Obernay

Welcome to the Resource Provision and to a busy summer term 2025.

The children shall be learning about the life cycle of a butterfly, exploring plants, the main parts of flowers and watch plants grow from planting seeds.

The children will be working in groups to enhance their learning in English and maths. Individual learning targets shall be incorporated into learning opportunities and experiences. In maths we will continue to explore counting, measure, numbers and shape through practical learning activities.

We will use the Little Wandle letters and sounds phonics programme and focus on the sounds: s a t p i n m d g.  We will also further explore: c o k ck r h b e u f l.

The children are encouraged to mark make and write daily, through a wide range of mark making opportunities and experiences.

There is information for parents on how you can support your child on the Little Wandle Website.

We will be singing familiar songs and explore the musical instruments, playing along to the songs we learn.

The children have the opportunity to engage with life skills activities through making playdough, cutting, spreading and baking, along with general socialising and conversation throughout the day.

Weekly PE is an opportunity for children to join their class peers for a variety of activities. Outdoor kit will be needed-joggers and sweatshirt as some work will be completed outside.

Some children will be supported to access learning with their class peers.

In year 1 and 2 children will be learning about how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. The focus in PE is for the basic movements of running, jumping, throwing and catching, along with balance and coordination.

Year 3 and 4 will be learning about Roman Britain, Forces and Magnets.

Year 5 and 6 shall study the Mayan civilisation and learn about their historical heritage and where possible children will engage in an enquiry led approach to complete independent projects. This will entail children generating their own questions and research them using a range of information sources.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch, if you have any queries or concerns.
