In English, we will be developing our writing skills through a range of fiction and non-fiction units. Our focus will be on expanding vocabulary, using punctuation for effect, and structuring our writing for clarity and impact.
We will continue with whole-class reading sessions to build fluency, comprehension, and a deeper appreciation for different texts. Our class text this term will be Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome—a wonderful adventure story set in the Lake District, which will tie in with our work in other subjects.
This term’s science topics are Earth and Space. In our space unit, we’ll explore the solar system, the movement of the Earth and Moon, and how this relates to night and day.
In History and Geography, our focus will shift to the Lake District. We will explore both the human and physical geography of the region and study its historical significance. As part of our enquiry-led learning, children will generate their own questions and conduct independent research using a range of sources.
In Art, we will study the work of William Heaton Cooper, a renowned English landscape artist best known for his stunning watercolours of the Lake District. The children will explore his techniques and create their own Lake District-inspired artwork.
PE lessons this term will focus on invasion games and the skills of attacking and defending.
PE Days: Monday and Tuesday
Please ensure that children have both indoor and outdoor PE kits in school every day, so we can be flexible depending on the weather.
Spelling: Set every Friday by Mrs Bolton, to be tested the following Friday.
Maths: Set every Thursday, to be completed over the weekend and returned by Monday.
Ongoing Support: We strongly encourage children to read to an adult at least twice a week and to regularly practise their times tables using TT Rock Stars.
